Hawk Spotlight: Jon Quinn on Resilience, Rivalries, and the Love of the Game

For junior pitcher Jon Quinn, baseball has never been just a sport; it’s a bond forged with his father and a passion that has carried him through both standout success and the long road back from injury. A captain on the Roger Williams baseball team, Quinn enters this season with an impressive résume: Second Team All-Conference, Third Team All-Region, and a 16-strikeout performance last year that ranks second all-time in RWU single-game history.

When asked what it’s like playing for RWU, Quinn’s answer was simple and heartfelt.

“Playing for Roger Williams is honestly all I could ask for,” he said. “It’s been a lot different just because the size of the team is so much different compared to high school. You get to meet so many new people.”

That love for the game runs deep. Quinn credits his father for introducing him to baseball and instilling a commitment that has never wavered.

“Honestly, I just love it so much,” he said. “It’s something that me and my dad grew up with. He taught me how to play all of that.”

That passion has been tested. When asked about the hardest part of playing his sport, Quinn didn’t hesitate.

“For me, honestly, staying healthy. I mean, I’m going on my second Tommy John surgery, so it’s been quite a rough ride. With injury and stuff, that’s tough.”

Despite the setbacks, Quinn has learned to channel his focus when the pressure mounts before a big game.

“Honestly, just trying to control what I can control—doing all the little things and just visualizing success.”

Now, as conference play heats up, the junior captain is energized by the intensity of close games.

“I’m looking forward to the energy late in games,” he said. “Close games, just pulling away with the win. Those games are just the best to be in.”

Quinn also shared what he appreciates most about the athletic program at RWU, pointing to the welcoming environment that has made his journey feel like home.
